This paper describes the version of the Satellite Ocean Aerosol Retrieval (SOAR) algorithm applied in version 1 of our forthcoming VIIRS "Deep Blue" aerosol data set. This is an update and expansion of the SOAR algorithm, which has been previously applied to generate data products from the SeaWiFS and AVHRR satellite instruments. The data are also validated against ship-borne aerosol observations from the Maritime Aerosol Network.
