VIIRS Version 1 Deep Blue aerosol data available

Figure shows (A) VIIRS L2 550nm AOD for heavy smoke case over North America on Sep 4 2017, (b) global VIIRS daily L3 550nm AOD on Sep 4 2017 and (C) global VIIRS monthly L3 550nm AOD on Sep 2017.

We are pleased to announce that the Version 1 VIIRS Deep Blue aerosol data set is available. Deep Blue product provides aerosol optical depth at 550 nm among other quantities, using the Deep Blue (DB) algorithm over land and Satellite Ocean Aerosol Retrieval (SOAR) algorithm over ocean.

Level 2 data are provided in 6-minute granules, at approximately 6 km x 6 km pixel size at the sub-satellite point. Level 3 daily (D3) and monthly (M3) composites at 1 degree horizontal resolution are also available. All files are in NetCDF4 format.
The data set is available through the LAADS DAAC and EarthData:
- LAADS DAAC
- EarthData

A data product user guide is also available at the above link. Access is free to the public. More information is also provided on the 'Data' tab of this website.
Algorithm and validation papers have been submitted and we are happy to discuss these in more detail. If you have any questions, comments, or problems, please feel free to get in touch with us.
